Cultural Resources Management and Archeology

J2R VETS military studies interdisciplinary team specializes in the study and management of military-related historic sites. 

Our teams work closely with the Saint Louis District Cultural Resources and Curation Services to provide the information they need, and to make recommendations for preservation or mitigation, as necessary. Military-related historic properties offer unique challenges in cultural resource management. 

Evaluating military resources requires a combination of archaeological skills and the ability to locate and investigate obscure archival documents. Military archeological sites involve comprehensive evaluation within a complex political and social context. Our veteran researchers understand military sites and provide the appropriate interpretive context used to assess and mitigate potential adverse effects including visual and auditory comprehensive story telling.

• Fort Knox – Archaeological survey of more than 25,000 acres, testing of 27 sites; verification of more than 210 sites

• Forts Gillem and McPherson – Historical and architectural mitigation for permanent closure under BRAC
